Derek Redmond 1992 Barcelona
This is one of the most remembered moments in Olympic History. In the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, Derek Redmond pulled a hamstring in the men's 400m semi-finals but fought through the pain and finished the race. Unfortunately Redmond was unable to race again but despite what his surgeon told him, he went on to play basketball and rugby. It is only fitting that he is now a motivational speaker.

Kelly Holmes 2004 Athens Olympics
Kelly Holmes had been one of Great Britain's finest athletes for over a decade when she arrived at Athens, aged 34, to compete in the 1500m and, she would announce only days beforehand, 800m at the 2004 Games. Gold at the highest level had eluded her thanks to a string of injuries and the domination of her training partner, Maria Mutola of Mozambique, one of the true greats of middle distance running. In the 800m final she quickly found herself at the back of the field as it set off at a furious pace but she fought back into contention and took the lead with 50m to go, courageously holding on for a first gold medal. Days later, in another perfectly timed performance, she broke the British record in taking gold in the 1500m. She was the first Briton in almost 85 years to take two gold medals in an Olympics and was made Dame Kelly Holmes in 2005. LondonPrepares.com
